Mandarin Chinese for Real Estate Professionals
Case Study 4: Jonny
Starting Point
Jonny, originally from Singapore, now works at a real estate agency in Brisbane. His Chinese was at an intermediate level. Sufficient for some daily conversations, but he wanted to expand his vocabulary specifically for the property market. Initially, he was concerned about whether lessons could align with his professional goals and wasn’t sure how to begin.
Teaching Approach
To ensure Jonny achieved his goals with a clear purpose, I designed a customised learning plan focused on practical application:
- Specialised Vocabulary: We concentrated on high-frequency terms commonly used in the property industry.
- Practical Scenarios: I created case studies and guided him through role-play exercises to help him apply new words naturally in conversations with clients.
- Reinforcement: Outside of class, Jonny practiced with translation tasks and short, selected videos to consolidate learning and strengthen retention.
Results
Within just a few lessons, Jonny made remarkable progress. He was able to speak Chinese confidently in his workplace and successfully built stronger connections with his Chinese-speaking clients.
Her testimonial speaks volumes:
- “Shelley is the best Chinese teacher I’ve had. She is highly knowledgeable and very patient, and I’ve made significant improvement in my Chinese speaking and reading ability since having her as my teacher. Highly recommend.” – Jonny
Continued Improvement
Moving forward, our focus will be twofold:
- Expanding daily conversational vocabulary so Jonny can speak fluently and confidently on a wider range of topics.
- Building a strong foundation in Chinese to support long-term growth, ensuring not only workplace success but also overall language mastery.
This case highlights how every student deserves a unique, purpose-driven learning plan. When lessons are tailored to personal goals, learning Chinese becomes both effective and rewarding.
