Case Study 8: Jim’s Chinese Learning Journey
Starting Point
Jim grew up in a family where Cantonese and English were the primary languages spoken at home. As a result, he picked up some Chinese naturally over the years but had never received structured Chinese language training.
His goal was clear: to improve his Chinese communication skills in order to expand career opportunities and contribute more effectively to his family business. Teaching Approach
After conducting a placement test and gaining a deeper understanding of Jim’s family business background, I designed a personalized learning plan that balanced practical business communication with building a strong Chinese foundation.
The learning content was tailored to the logistics industry while also introducing broader business topics to expand his professional vocabulary beyond a single field.
During lessons, we focused on:
